D e v i s i n g   P r a c t i c e s   is an experimental project curated by Laura van der Tas that aims to re-evaluate the roles of artists and curators as co-producers in creative directorship. Artists Rosa Farber, Martina Morger, Gemma Jones, Wei Zhang and Lillian Ross-Millard were invited to participate in a residency project alongside van der Tas, curator Lindsay LeBoyer and videographer Siyao Li through a series of five self-directed workshops held over the span of two days in July 2019. Each participant was given the opportunity to share their practice pedagogy with one another either as a way to re-examine the methodology and materials adopted in their ongoing practice or to construct a basis for the creation of future work.

The exhibit showcases an ongoing developing curatorial methodology that aims to instigate a series of creations and events through collaborative processes while providing and experimenting with a structure where thematic cohesiveness and findings occur organically. These experimental workshops engage with an open approach to co-curation, where the directive agency and influence over the creative process are shifted and the intent over a project’s outcome becomes limited as well as a shared responsibility between artists and curators.
